Two youths were injured Sunday after a shooting in a Woodbridge residential area, according to police. The incident was reported at a time when Virginia authorities say violence in the state has increased compared to last year.
According to preliminary information, authorities received a report of a shooting on Cloverdale Road and Carlsbad Road at about 3 pm Sunday. The report also revealed that three hooded men, including two presumed Hispanics wearing dark clothing, approached a parked car with passengers and opened fire several times.
The bullets hit a 17-year-old teenager and a 19-year-old woman, whose car ended up in reverse, hitting a house where the marks are still visible.
The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle while the injured were taken to the hospital and are out of danger. For the police, the fact does not seem to be random despite the fact that this area is described by many as quiet.
“I am 8 years old and until today these things are being seen,” said a resident who preferred not to be named.
A couple of weeks ago, four minutes from the scene, another shooting left three people dead and others injured. The authorities themselves were astonished because the area does not frequently report incidents of this type. However, things seem to be changing.
VIOLENCE CONTINUES TO INCREASE, ACCORDING TO REPORT
The last report of 2022 shows a 5% increase in violent crimes in the state compared to the previous year with more than 20,500 reports of this type in which 44.5% used firearms.
Homicides rose 10.5%, car thefts 22% and property thefts 4%. For the residents of the area, the outlook seems to be getting more and more complicated.
“You also have to take a little security, that’s why I have tried to put cameras for one’s security,” said Ramiro.
According to the Virginia police, a crime against people occurs every 4 minutes and 49 seconds in the state. The attorney general indicated a few months ago that crime in the District would be spilling over into his state.
