Springs Creek Fire in Garfield County grows rapidly to 3,000 acres near I-70

DENVER, Colorado – The wildfire in Garfield County continues to grow and has already consumed some 3,000 acres, according to authorities.

Known as the Spring Creek Fire, it started Saturday near the town of Parachute. Their progress was slow at first, covering just 212 acres by Monday morning. However, the combination of strong winds and the presence of flammable materials in the area allowed the fire to spread rapidly.

A team of more than 300 firefighters has been assigned to fight the fire, in addition to air resources. So far, it has not been necessary to order evacuations and no threatened structures have been reported.

Authorities recommend nearby residents sign up for county emergency notifications GarCo911.com . The Colorado Department of Transportation had not issued any travel advisories related to the fire as of Tuesday morning.

Public health authorities have issued an air quality advisory in southern Garfield and northern Mesa counties.

In the Denver metropolitan area, you may see a plume of smoke coming from the fire, but no air quality alert has been issued for that area as of Tuesday morning.
