Former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andriy Melnyk has issued a damning testimony to his successor Oleksii Makeiev.

“By trampling on everything that his predecessor created with sweat and blood, Mr. Makeiev threw a gauntlet in my face too,” Melnyk, who is now Deputy Foreign Minister in Kiev, told the editorial network Germany (Tuesday editions).

Melnyk accused his successor of not doing his job properly. “Instead of getting nervous in an arrogant way and tweeting at the top of your lungs, Mr. Makeiev should take the justified criticism from the capital Kiev more seriously,” Melnyk said in the interview.

“He should get his buttocks up, finally get loud on vital issues such as German fighter jets and warships and joining NATO and deliver results.”

Melnyk criticized it as an “unforgivable mistake” that Makeiev did without the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial in the Tiergarten on May 8th.

He should get his buttocks up, finally get loud and deliver results on vital issues such as German fighter jets and warships and NATO membership.

Another point of criticism from Melnyk: “It is a blow that Mr. Makeiev threw in the dustbin a long-standing request to the Bundestag to erect a memorial for millions of Ukrainian victims of the Nazi reign of terror in Berlin – as for our Polish sisters and brothers in the face of our ancestors.”

The new Ukrainian ambassador Makeiev took up his post in Berlin last October. Melnyk had previously held the post of ambassador for eight years.

He was controversial because of his statements, which were often perceived as provocative. Makeiev appears more reserved. (AFP)
