The ship has sailed for the now 73-year-old actress, and she has no plans whatsoever to reprise the role of Ripley in any upcoming Alien film. This according to a new interview with Total Film where the question came up in connection with a discussion about Harrison Ford’s participation in the new (and potentially last) film in the Indiana Jones sequel. Something Weaver does not intend to copy and instead firmly announces that her days as Ripley are numbered.

“There are all kinds of younger actors taking this kind of role. And there was an ‘Alien’ film that I really wanted to do with Neill Blomkamp and we didn’t get to do that, but, you know, that ship has sailed. I’m very happy doing what I’m doing. I put in my time in space!”

The fifth Alien film with Blomkamp unfortunately never got off the ground and Weaver subsequently had a new proposal sent to him three years ago but this time with Walter Hill in the director’s chair. However, this new version was not something she found particularly interesting.

“I don’t know. Ridley has gone in a different direction. Maybe Ripley has done her bit. She deserves a rest.”

In short, don’t count on seeing Weaver in Fede Alvarez’s upcoming Alien movie or any possible sequel. We’ll have to make do with the four appearances Weaver made as Ripley simply.

Do you think it’s a good decision by Weaver to shelve Ripley?

Beware of Aliens under the bed!
