Like every year, Apptopia revealed the annual ranking of the 10 most downloaded applications. So, surprise or no surprise?

Who says beginning of the year, says balance sheet of the previous year. And when we talk about mobile applications, the analysis firm Apptopia is never far away to offer us the traditional ranking of the most downloaded applications in the world.. After two years of domination, did Chinese giant TikTok retain its number 1 spot in fiscal 2022? Answer a little further down, since before giving the results of this ranking, we will first of all be interested in the method put in place by Apptopia to develop this top 10.

Thus, Apptopia only takes into account unique app downloads – uninstallations and reinstallations are not counted. This also applies for downloads on multiple devices with the same account. A ranking and surprises!

Well, we’re not going to keep you in suspense any longer. TikTok remains for the third consecutive year the most downloaded mobile application in 2022 with 672 million installations. A longevity which proves that the Chinese giant has now established itself permanently all over the world. Behind the application of ByteDance are Instagram and WhatsApp which completes the podium with respectively 548 and 424 million downloads.

At the foot of the podiumfirst surprise, since we find a video editor, in the person of the application CapCut. However, when you take a closer look at it, you quickly understand that its success goes hand in hand with that of TikTok, since this app is the preferred tool for Chinese platform users to build their videos. At the fifth and sixth positionswe find Snapchat then Telegram who have exchanged places compared to the ranking of the year 2021.

More surprisingly, the presence of mobile gaming Subway Surfers which offers itself for its tenth year of life the 7ᵉ place in the ranking. Comes next Facebook, which suffered one of its biggest setbacks here, going from 416 million downloads in 2021 (3ᵉ place) to “only” 298 million in 2022. Finally, and as proof that the mobile video game is not dead, we find the distant cousin of Fall Guys, Stumble Guys, in 9ᵉ place in the rankingjust in front of Spotify, which offers itself for the second consecutive year, the ultimate and last place in the Top 10.
