Sony Semiconductor is showing three new full-frame sensors on its website without further announcement. They have the product numbers IMX366AJK (44 megapixels) and IMX455AQK-C (61 megapixels), the latter is also available in a monochrome version for industrial applications and surveillance cameras. Sony recommends both sensors in the data sheets for both photo and film cameras. Third-party vendors can now order.

Both components are CMOS sensors, the back of which is exposed. They differ primarily in terms of the effective resolution of 44.72 megapixels for the IMX366 and 61.17 megapixels for the IMX455, as well as the speed at which the data can be read out. This not only determines the serial frame rate when taking photos, but also the frame rate when filming and the color depth.

The IMX366 can still be read with a color depth of 14 bits for photos, while only 12 bits at 60 frames per second (FPS) are possible for 8K film recordings. With 4K, 120 frames per second in 12 bits are also possible, which is suitable for slow motion. The IMX455, with its 61 megapixels, can only film at 30 fps in 8K, and can still work at 60 frames per second in 4K, all in 12 bits.

This is probably why Sony has limited the frame rate of the Alpha A7R V to 24 FPS for 8K films, and the camera can work with 60 FPS in 4K. Because the IMX455 should come from this flagship of the Alpha series. The other data are in Sonys PDF for the IMX455 and the PDF for the IMX366 to find. Sony has not yet announced the sensors with a press release or prices.
