The new King adaptation The Boogeyman, which is based on one of the author’s lesser-known stories from 1973, will be recut. This after the audience screamed too much during test screenings of the film. This was something that the film’s director Rob Savage told in an interview with the newspaper Empire where he explained that the audience completely drowned out everything else to the mild extent of missing important dialogue in several scenes.

“The first time you see the creature, the audience screamed so loud, and then immediately started talking with their neighbours and chattering, that they completely missed the next lines. So we had to recut it and build in 45 seconds of padding, just so they didn’t miss any vital information.”

Of course it may feel a bit like marketing talk, but at the same time it is hugely boring if the film has now actually been made less scary. We’ll simply have to wait and see when The Boogeyman opens on June 2nd. If you missed the trailer, you can check it out here.

Are you curious about The Boogeyman and what do you think about what the director says above, truth or nonsense?

“Aaahhhhhh!!”
