Los Angeles – Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler is facing a civil lawsuit alleging sexual abuse. A woman has accused the band’s singer of using his status as a rock star in the 1970s to start a sexual relationship with the then 16-year-old – the now 74-year-old was in his 20s at the time. This was reported by US media such as the “Rolling Stone” and the “New York Times” unanimously.
Tyler will not be named in the lawsuit, which was filed in California under legislation protecting minors. The musician had met the young woman at a concert. The indictment also alleges that Tyler – who has never denied having a relationship with a minor – got her mother to appoint him as a guardian so he could take her on tour.
The plaintiff said in a quoted statement, “I want this action to expose an industry that protects high-profile criminals, cleanse and hold accountable the industry that has exploited me for years.” Tyler initially did not speak. Aerosmith was founded in Boston in 1970.
