Before sailing the waters of Street Fighter 6 It is inevitable to tell you why this franchise is so important to the gaming industry. It all started in 1987 when Capcom released the first of the games. The gameplay that was introduced back then was so impressive that they ended up conceiving it as a pioneer and founder for the fighting genre. This system allowed us to control a fighter and leave simple movements behind, to give us space to perform combos and special attacks through sequential combination; being these crucial elements of a game design that would become part of all the fighting games that we have known since then.

If we count all the platforms, main games, spin-offs, collections and re-releases, to date the saga has seen more than 60 titles, without counting collaborations with other projects such as Marvel vs. Capcom or Street Fighter X Tekken, whose number would skyrocket to over 100.

The world of video games was not the only one for which Capcom decided to embark with Street Fighter. He had his extensive journey through the cinema with the famous film by Jean-Claude Van Damme, the animated series (some booming in the 90s and another important one in 2014), the comics (with many numerous strips from UDON Entertainment), and also books. , which vary between novels and art books.

While the brand has had its ups and downs, Street Fighter’s popularity is undeniable. Some other reasons that catapulted the glory of this long-lived project is the fame of the arcades -or “fichines”, in Argentina- with its two golden ages, where Street Fighter 2 broke all records. In addition, they were one of the first games that allowed online play in an optimized way, not to mention the impact they have on the esports industry, with its colossal competitions and fighting tournaments.

In June comes Street Fighter 6, the next in the series hungry to conquer the fighting game scene. This will come to PlayStation 4 or 5, Xbox Series and PC, seeking to conquer our hearts with new characters, and will feature icons such as Chun-Li and Ryu. From FiRe Infobae we have had the opportunity to travel to the city of San Francisco in the United States, to experience first-hand a preview of this launch, which is still closing the last details prior to its release. Let’s get to know each of its three modes in detail:

fighting ground

The typical arena to fight. This mode is very well organized, since without many laps it allows us to face other users online or locally, or even against an AI and test the skill of our hands. Here we can also have arcades or survival series. In this hands-on I had the opportunity to play with the character JP and fight against a CPU up to level 7 (although there will be 8 in the final version).

In particular, I have always consumed fighting games, so I feel comfortable and within the average to face this type of challenge. So, and with all that confidence, in more than 12 matches I was only able to defeat the machine once on this difficulty. I can’t imagine how complex it will be to beat him in maximum and I leave that space to the most skilled.

In addition to battles, there are other interesting ways to spend time in this mode, such as the Character Guide, which teaches us to discover the character you want to learn in depth; or the Combo Trial that invites us to practice the best combinations of the chosen PJ. I was able to enjoy this submode with Cammy and it helped me a lot to warm up.

world tour

It is a single-player campaign that allows you to create your own warrior with endless physical customization possibilities and experience an interesting story. This arc is divided into chapters and in the preview we had the chance to play until 3-1. At first glance, this mode is an interesting complement of content to cut with so much adrenaline from the competitions and go out and explore the streets of Japan.

For lovers of this culture, walking through the streets of this city is a beautiful thing, as we have previously experienced in the Yakuza or Persona franchises. Here there is a well-marked RPG component that is governed by improving skills and combining styles. For example, we will start with Luke’s style and as we progress through the sessions we can switch to a type of fighting more similar to Chun-Li, who we will meet quickly in the story.

battle hub

A hub where gamers can also create their character and test themselves against other users online. Although we couldn’t test it hands-on, we have played it in closed betas and the experience has been a lot of fun. The character customization system is one of the most comprehensive we’ve ever seen.

Street Fighter 6 will feature a squad of 18 characters on their day 1. Of course, there will be some of the classic eminents of the franchise, as well as new fighters such as Luke, Jamie and Jury. Likewise, the future will bring new additions and many variants of costumes.

After controversies with the first logo design and lessons learned from the rare release of Street Fighter V, the next video game from this pop culture icon promises to be a beautiful madness. The hype of the communities is very high, as are their expectations, but from what we have seen, Capcom can deliver this perfectly. To kill the wait, we remind you that there is a free demo on all consoles and PC. Will a fighting game be able to fight the GOTY? We’ll see how it goes in its final release on June 2nd.
