Jerick McKinnon has his problems when it comes to the exact location of major European cities. At the Super Bowl media day, the Kansas City Chiefs attacking player was asked about his knowledge of Germany.

The surprising answer from the running back caused a few laughs – even from the player himself.

“I don’t know that much. Amsterdam? That’s in Germany, isn’t it? Not? Okay, I don’t know much about Germany”he told Focus Online. But that should change by October or November at the latest, because then the Kansas City Chiefs will play a home game in the NFL season in Germany.

However, the focus of the 30-year-old should currently be much more on the final for the NFL title against the Philadelphia Eagles on the night from Sunday to Monday.

Kansas star Dunlap: “You drink beer anyway”

But unlike in the USA, the enthusiasm in front of the screens in Germany will be somewhat smaller. Because the game only starts at 0.30 a.m. German time on the night from Sunday to Monday.

Including the halftime show, where pop star Rihanna will appear this year, the game usually doesn’t end before five in the morning.

Carlos Dunlap does not believe that this could become a problem for the German fans. “You drink beer anyway, we’ll entertain you,” the 33-year-old replied flippantly.

Tommy Townsend, who plays punter for the Chiefs, was a bit more diplomatic. “The Chiefs and the Eagles are two top teams, so it’s going to be a great game that a lot of people want to see. Hopefully we’ll have a lot of German spectators for the big game.”

NFL stars know Bayern Munich

But unlike McKinnon, other players are a little more informed. In addition to the beer habit, Dunlap also knows the bratwurst. Certainly much to the delight of head coach Andy Reid. “I’m looking forward to getting a bratwurst,” he said a few weeks ago after it was announced that the Chiefs would play in Germany.

George Karlaftis, who was born in Athens and lived there for 13 years, still knows Bayern Munich – the Chiefs’ cooperation partner. But otherwise he only knows Germany from the airport.

So that it doesn’t stop there, the players also have time on site to get to know the city and meet fans. “We’re definitely going to get some free time and I can look around,” McKinnon said. “

NFL boss promises more Germany games

Not only the Chiefs, but also the New England Patriots will play a game in Germany in the coming season. There will probably be more games in the future.

“We’re moving forward with this and it shows the incredible support we have there. Our league loved it, our teams, our fans globally – you will see more football in Germany.”said league boss Roger Godell at a press conference during the Super Bowl.

“I think you’re going to see more than fewer games than the ones we’ve already committed to,” Godell said.

After Manuel Neuer was injured, top goalkeeper Yann Sommer was signed, goalkeeper coach Toni Tapalović was fired and Neuer’s most recent scandalous interview has FC Hollywood atmosphere again at the record champions.
