It was as late as last Saturday that we were able to report that the wildly popular Super Mario Bros. movie had taken in a whopping 9.3 billion kroner, which meant that it had begun sniffing the tenth place for the world’s biggest animated movies of all time. As expected, it didn’t take long before the golden tie was cracked and the plumber train’s entry on the leaderboard was a fact.

This weekend it became clear that Mario has earned a total of ten billion kroner since the premiere on April 5th and the success will undoubtedly continue for a long time to come. The Japanese premiere also took place on April 28th, which of course means even more revenue when audiences from the home country now finally get to sink their teeth into the film, too.

So even though Super Mario Bros can now boast the title of being the world’s 10th biggest animated feature film, all indications are that the plumber will continue to climb the leaderboard and eventually push films like Finding Doris and Dumb Mej 3 down from their respective positions .

We at Gamereactor can’t help but applaud Nintendo and Universal’s well-deserved success with an absolutely outstanding film whose strengths are celebrated in our review, written by Gamereactor’s own film editor André Lamartine.
