The fashion world mourns the loss of an impressive woman.
The German supermodel Tatjana Patitz died surprisingly and much too early. Vogue first reported the sad news. Born in Hamburg, she was 56 years old. She died in California on Wednesday morning (local time), leaving behind a son, her parents and a sister.
Now the fashion world is in shock. Patitz was one of the most internationally successful models in the 80s and 90s. She stood in front of the camera for countless magazines and was photographed by the best photographers. Patitz worked with Naomi Campbell (52), Linda Evangelista (57) and Cindy Crawford (56), among others.
According to her New York agency, Patitz died of breast cancer. She is said to have hidden her illness from the public until the end. Admirers reacted all the more shocked to the news of death – and companions also gave free rein to their grief.
Claudia Schiffer prays for Patitz’ family
“I am so sad to hear that Tatjana Patitz passed away. She was a real member of the supermodel gang and it’s hard to believe someone left us so young,” Claudia Schiffer wrote on Instagram. “My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She was a pleasure to work with – so down to earth yet always elevated. I hope she has horses and dogs in heaven. She will be greatly missed.”
Cindy Crawford remembers time together
Together with Cindy Crawford, Patitz was one of the “Big Five”, the most sought-after models in the world at the time. “I am so saddened by the passing of beautiful Tatjana Patitz. We were young in the fashion industry and it felt like we grew up together. We’ve been on so many shoots together and backstage at shows,” Crawford recalled. “She was gentle, sensitive, kind, curious, and who could ever forget those piercing eyes? Her love for animals and nature was contagious. My condolences to her family – especially the son she loved so much.”
Eva Herzigova shocked by the news of death
Eva Herzigova (49), former supermodel and actress from the Czech Republic, posted a black and white shot of the beauty and wrote: “An angel has left us. Tatjana Patitz – hearing about your death is the saddest news I could have imagined. I miss you very much. Rest in peace.”
Helena Christensen valued her connection to nature
Danish model Helena Christensen (54) also worked with Patitz. She says goodbye touchingly, writing a long and personal text on Instagram: “Beautiful Tatjana, you were such a divine spirit, from the inside out, always graceful and calm, with those wonderful smiling eyes. We have taken so many trips together since we were little and shared incredible memories.”
Posting both old and more recent pictures, Christensen continued, “I loved being around you, it felt so peaceful and we always laughed a lot. I am grateful that we stayed in touch until the end. I had to smile as I just read through our messages and realized that they were mostly about our love for nature. I hope you ride a horse across endless meadows with that smile on your face and the wind blowing in your hair. Rest in peace beautiful angel.”
