Suspect in shooting and killing two brothers on I-25 charged with murder

DENVER, Colorado – The Denver District Attorney’s Office indicted 25-year-old Stephen Long on two counts of first-degree murder. The charges are related to an alleged road rage incident that occurred on I-25 in Denver.

The events occurred just before 3:00 p.m., on June 13, 2023.. As a result of the incident, two brothers, 21-year-old Blake Lucas and 22-year-old Damon Lucas, were shot dead. On June 15, 2023, the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner determined the deaths to be homicides.

A Denver Police Department detective who was in a police vehicle near the shooting heard gunshots and called for help.

The detective followed the suspect vehicle until it was stopped at 13th and Meade. Long, the driver of the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident.

Long made his first court appearance on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. During the hearing, notice was waived and he was placed in detention without bail.
