At CES 2023, TCL not only confirmed its entry into the segment for QD OLED TVs in the second half of 2023, but also new LCD television sets introduced. Some of them use mini LED backlights. However, it is still unclear which TV models will come to Europe, because so far there has only been an announcement from TCL USA.
Specifically, TCL is launching new S (entry level) and Q (middle and luxury class) series. They primarily talked about details about the probably more interesting Q models. In the case of the new Q6, these are QLED LCDs with local dimming and 60 Hz. They will be available with diagonals from 55 to 75 inches. The so-called “Game Accelerator” can go to 120 Hz for VRR, but then the vertical resolution is halved.
The Q7 also offer this function, but since they work natively at 120 Hz, 240 Hz are then possible. But that should only make sense for PC gamers. In addition, TCL promises five times more dimming zones for the FALD backlight compared to the previous models in 2022. The TCL Q7 will be available with 55 to 85 inches. They also received certification for IMAX Enhanced.
However, the flagships of the Q series are the QM8 with mini LED backlighting and up to 2,300 dimming zones. Doubled peak brightness is promised here compared to the previous year’s models from 2022. The QM8 use Wi-Fi 6 and will be available in diagonals from 65 to 98 inches. TCL will use Android TV with the Google TV interface as the operating system for the Q series televisions.
Also worth mentioning: TCL has also vaguely hinted at new soundbars, which will also be split into the S and Q series, analogous to the televisions. For example, there will be the S4 and Q6 series. Technical data unfortunately still shines through its absence at the current time.
