tenoch orchard He is an actor who has used his popularity to raise awareness about racism in the entertainment industry. On several occasions, he expressed his dissatisfaction that they only gave him roles of “poor, ignorant and violent”, as well as many other actors and actresses who, due to his skin color, have been reduced to stereotypes.

It is for this reason that the native of Coacalco, State of Mexicojoined with other artists from various disciplines to create dark power, a movement that seeks to end discrimination against people with brown skin in all sectors of the country.

However, this effort to make a change has led Huerta to be labeled a “hypocrite” on social media. It all started in September 2022, when the actor appeared at the Milan Fashion Week with a cloak of feathers, which in itself created all kinds of comments. Tenoch got this cape through the mark Children of the Cornwith no idea who had done the piece.

With the help of the cultural promoter luz valdezTenoch was able to meet the original creator of the garment at the beginning of April 2023: the woman from Michoacán Feliciana Hernandez Bautistadescribing it as “one of the happiest meetings of his life”.

However, Luz Valdez shared on her Twitter account TikTok that Feliciana had designed a Purepecha overflow that, through intermediaries, reached the hands of Children of the Cornwho in turn they redesigned the overflow without Feliciana’s permissionmaking it the cape Tenoch wore in Milan.

To this is added that Feliciana was never recognized, but rather the credits for the making of the cape went solely to Diana Buendia. Valdez denounced that, despite the fact that the networks of Hijos del Maíz reiterated that the cape was a collaboration with Feliciana, those in charge of the same networks did not know who Feliciana was.

Another point that seemed disrespectful to Valdez is that the name of the cape was changed to “Tezcatlipoca”, completely ignoring its Purepecha origin, giving it a Mexica name.

“It bothers me that they go with the banner of supporting artisans and can’t even give them recognition,” Valdez said in one of these videos.

The video was very well received by Internet users, for which Hijos del Maíz quickly apologized and reiterated that Feliciana Hernández had been a very important part in the creation of the Tenoch cape. Although it seemed that everything had ended there, the controversy returned when Luz again manifested herself in networks, assuring through tears that she had suffered “intimidation and psychological violence” by dark power.

The promoter shares in the video screenshots where the collective of which Tenoch Huerta is a part defended the fact that Feliciana was not given credit because “she did not ask for it”, when, in effect, Feliciana asked Luz to Please share the story of the cape on your TikTok.

Finally, Tenoch Huerta issued a release this April 8, where he assured that Poder Prieto had made “unfortunate comments” against Luz Valdez “without full knowledge of the case.”

“It was wrong and it only affects our fight, we definitely have to meditate and correct it,” Huerta declares in the statement, where he also reiterates that he will be “much more careful in the demands with allies and collaborators,” and also that he will continue working with Children of the Corn and with Feliciana Hernández to the extent possible.

Of course, the networks did not take long to share their opinion on the case. Here are some of the comments that Tenoch Huerta received after his statement:

  • “I have a question, if you have so much respect for feather art and you know how the fashion market works with artisans, why did you decide to wear a garment intervened by designers? It seems to me personally that intervening in a piece is whitening, but I read you”.
  • “Tenoch, I admire you a lot. But, net? Did this release need to be more about you? You missed the opportunity to give more recognition and space to people who deserve attention. Here you did not deserve prominence or revictimize (you)”.
  • “Making a team and continuing to collaborate with the collective and group that was in charge of plagiarizing Feliciana’s work speaks of their zero consistency. In short, zero credibility in their statements due to the violence that they exercised as a group against Feliciana and Luz Valdez.
