The cartoons of Chavo del Toro, Nerilicón and Perujo caused a sensation during 2022, but particularly the acid, raw, powerful style of Chavo del Toro conquered preferences.

1. The law of hell, by Chavo del Toro
In May, the feminist lawyer Cecilia Monzón was assassinated in Puebla. The main suspect of being the mastermind is the father of her son: Javier López, former PRI candidate for governor of Puebla. This cartoon alludes to the statements of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador: in the image they warn him of the crime against Monzón and the president asks about the hitmen.
2. Golden Triangle, from Nerilicón
In Mexico, the golden triangle It is made up of a mountainous area between the states of Sinaloa, Durango and Chihuahua. Its fame is due to its difficult access to planting, which makes it susceptible to the production of marijuana and poppies. Making an analogy, our cartoonist Nerilicón assigns other members to the Golden Triangle: Morena (the party in power), the Sinaloa Cartel and AMLO. In addition, as a shield, he places two long weapons, like those used by drug traffickers.
3. Neither forgiveness nor forgetfulness, by Chavo del Toro
The differences between Ricardo Monreal, coordinator of the group of Morena senators, and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador have been widely publicized. Monreal has declared that he wishes to be a candidate for the Presidency of the Republic; AMLO does not consider it one of his “caps”, as he calls his possible candidates, among whom are Claudia Sheinbaum, Marcelo Ebrard and Adán Augusto López.

In the midst of a large amount of blood are Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Felipe Calderón Hinojosa and Enrique Peña Nieto. As of 2018, when AMLO’s term began, the intentional homicide rate exceeded that of other countries that used to be above Mexico, such as Brazil, Colombia and Guatemala.
6. Military service, from Chavo del Toro
President Lopez Obrador has involved the Army in public security tasks and in the administration of the Felipe Ángeles Airport and the Mata Train, among other tasks. Here we see the president suggesting to Luis Cresensio Sandoval, Secretary of National Defense, that he also militarize the drug trafficker, alluding to the possibility that the Sedena may intervene in more activities outside of its initial objective.
7. Ungrateful, by Chavo del Toro
Given the protests against the construction of the mayan train for ecological damage, the president called the opponents pseudo-environmentalists. Among the protesters was Rubén Albarrán, vocalist of Café Tacvba, who in this image reminds AMLO of his PRI past.
8. Airspace expert, from Nerilicón
The protagonist of this cartoon is Jose Maria Rioboo, businessman close to Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Riobóo has been a technical advisor for the construction of the Felipe Ángeles Airport, for the analysis of the Benito Juárez and Toluca airports and for the rehabilitation of Line 12 of the Mexico City subway, damaged in 2021. José’s wife María Riobóo is Yasmín Esquivel Mossa, minister of the Supreme Court of the Nation.
9. Metro CDMX, from Perujo
On May 3, 2021, a section of the road collapsed. subway line 12 capital. 26 people died. The entire line was shut down for repairs. In this cartoon, the Head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum is dressed as a surgeon, but she is operating on the subway with her feet. This is an allusion to the lack of maintenance that this public transport has suffered in recent decades.
10. Fortune teller, from Perujo
In the accident of the subway line 12, in which an elevated fragment collapsed in May 2021, killing 26 people. As a consequence, the line was closed. And although President López Obrador affirmed that in a year he would be ready, it was not. That is why this cartoon shows a child questioning Claudia Sheinbaum, Head of Government of Mexico City, about the date on which she will be able to use this subway line again.
