We haven’t heard much since Automobili Estrema’s 2,012-hp (1,500 kW/2,040 PS) Fulminea in 2021.

However, the model has returned to the spotlight as the brand provided an update and revealed that the first production model will be revealed this June. Shortly thereafter, in September, the Automobili Estrema will head to the Nürburgring and try to set a new lap record for an electric sports car on the Nordschleife.

Interestingly, but somewhat disturbingly, Automobili Estrema has launched a Kickstarter campaign to “support the costs involved in such an endeavor.” The campaign is seeking to raise $104,197 (£86,154/€97,863). The company also plans to produce a documentary that will cover “the entire process from inception to the Nordschleife competition.” Viewers will also be able to “follow the making of Fulminea” in nine episodes scheduled to air from February to October.

Needless to say, there’s a lot of risk involved, with the Kickstarter campaign stating that “As a startup, we knew we might not be able to finish the Fulminea prototype and/or miss out on the record-breaking attempt…but we also knew that with our passion, experience, expertise With knowledge and talent, the chances of success are greater.” That remains to be seen, with the company concluding: “We don’t yet know if our story will have a happy ending, so let’s find out together.”

Taken together, the Fulminea will be a revolutionary electric supercar with supercapacitors and a “hybrid” battery pack that combines conventional lithium-ion batteries with solid-state batteries produced by Avesta Battery Energy Engineering. This will give the car a combined battery capacity of at least 100 kWh and a record energy density of 500 Wh/kg. The company also notes that the battery will weigh just 661 pounds (300 kilograms), while the car itself should weigh 3,307 pounds (1,500 kilograms).

If all goes well, the four-motor Fulminea will be able to do 0-199 mph (0-320 km/h) in less than 10 seconds and cover around 323 miles (520 km) on the WLTP cycle. The company also says the car should be able to charge from 10% to 80% in less than 15 minutes.

Automobili Estrema added that “initial production is underway” and that only 61 will be made, with prices starting at €1,961,000 ($2,087,396 / £1,725,827).
