The FundPlata Foundation prepared its usual monthly report on the variation of the food basket of La Plata. The study notes that in December there was an increase of 3.5% in butchery, warehouse and greengrocery products, a similar mark to that registered in November when it rose 3.2%.

The survey was carried out in 18 businesses in the Buenos Aires capital with sales to the public of the three items and included 26 products, was carried out in 13 neighborhoods of the city during the fourth week of December. The item that experienced the greatest increase it was that of greengrocery products with 8.6%; followed by warehouses with 4.4%; and for meat products with 0.9%.

“Regarding food in particular, the products that experienced an increase well above the average increase were lettuce, carrots, oil, oranges, white eggs, among others,” explained Julia Galizzi, FundPlata economist.

The specialist also clarified that “this food basket from La Plata cannot be directly compared with the food basket of the Consumer Price Index since the latter is more extensive, but this exercise can give us a guideline of the evolution of the price of food in general and of certain foods in particular”.

Galizzi considered that from the comparative analysis between the two baskets “it appears that the one corresponding to the GBA matches, had an increase of 5.1% compared to April against the 5.7% increase that took place in our city.”
