On BFMTV, the LFI deputy believes that Emmanuel Macron is “stubborn” in maintaining his pension reform project, while a very large majority of the population is opposed to it. He invites the French to demonstrate in the coming weeks.

On the eve of the presentation by Elisabeth Borne of the pension reform on Tuesday, the opposition is getting organized. On the set of BFMTV, the deputy of La France insoumise Manuel Bompard calls on the French to mobilize alongside the unions, recalling that a majority of French people are opposed to the government’s project. “This bill is structurally in the minority in the country,” he says.

“All the polls that have been done on the subject show that 70 to 80% of French people are opposed to postponing the retirement age”, explains Manuel Bompard. Especially since the government intends to extend the retirement age to 64 and make retirement conditional on 43 years of contributions.

“The question is therefore whether it is a text of law that is supported by the French. And that is not the case”, sums up the deputy.

“It’s in the street that it’s going to happen”

Is the pension debate over? “The battle begins,” replies the rebellious elected official, who overwhelms Emmanuel Macron. “The President of the Republic had the opportunity to prevent a situation which will necessarily be a difficult situation for the country for the next few weeks”, he explains.

“He makes the opposite choice, he is stubborn despite the fact that 70% of French people are against it and that all the trade union organizations of employees are opposed to this bill”, he adds.

“It’s in the street that it’s going to happen”, therefore decides Manuel Bompard. If the inter-union will decide this Tuesday on a date of mobilization, the deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône calls on the French to go to Paris on Saturday January 21. A demonstration on the initiative of several youth organizations and supported by La France insoumise will be organized there.
