France 3 broadcasts this Tuesday, January 10 from 9:10 p.m. the last two episodes of its new miniseries The best of us (our opinion). Will light eventually be shed on the assassination of biathlon champion Abel Guérin (Loyan Pons de Vier)? Is Jean Faure (Bruno Debrandt) involved in this affair? What about the victim’s family? Captain Awa Sissako (Mariama Gueye who was inspired by a television star for this role) continues her investigation alongside the mysterious Achille Salvi, played by Nicholas Gob. The 40-year-old Belgian actor gave an interview to Tele-Leisure for the occasion.

There was a desire to make my character almost strange“, Nicholas Gob

Télé-Loisirs: How would you define Achille?
Nicholas Gob
: My character was defined almost in line with the contemplative rhythm of the setting in which he lives daily. He has a kind of slowness, shyness, something sullen that you don’t quite understand. There was a desire to make him almost strange, by his silence. We don’t really know if he’s nice or not.

You said get a lot of cop rolesbut in what proportions?

Already, I do not receive that many proposals. And in the ones I get, it’s 80% cops. So, I have to either stop working or reinvent myself by finding a new engine. This engine in The best of usit was the atmosphere, the decorum of the biathlon, and then, trying to create a character a little different from what I had already done.

I want introspective, more human roles, playing a father (…)“, Nicholas Gob

What roles do you dream of?

I want introspective, more human roles, playing a father, roles with more feelings. I would dream of playing in an auteur film, but besides, I also dream of making action films. They let me do other things that I loved, like my role in Glitter prawns. Anyway, it seems that we are never happy (He’s laughing.). Back then, fifteen or twenty years ago, it was easier to have more varied roles because people, it seemed, had more imagination. Today, it’s very easy to say to yourself, hey, here’s a muscular bald guy, we’re going to give him a cop role. But everything is just starting over, so at some point, it will change.

How did this shoot go in the middle of the snow?

It’s a bit of a fight against the elements, but the director has instilled group cohesion so that people want to move forward together. Even if it’s a complicated environment, there is suddenly this group cohesion that makes it almost easy to overcome. But, we, the actors, we are pampered, and everything is fine for us. Nothing is really complicated, we are just a little cold. But there is a whole team behind that is struggling.

Can you tell us about your first film project as a director?

It’s a very personal project. I had cancer when I was younger, it deals with that through the prism of sport, of resilience. I’ve had this project in mind for a long time, but I finally have someone pushing me to finish it this year. It’s my will to make it, but not to play in it. Directing has always driven me, I’ve been watching and learning alongside directors for twenty years when I shoot. I have a real capacity to be able to take up this torch.

What are your projects as actors?

I shot in October 2022 Murders on the Côte Fleurie with Flore Bonaventura. I will shoot a new season of The Art of Crime starting in May. I know we’re going to shoot in Versailles, it’s quite exciting. The plots are getting cooler, the characters are growing. There is a very nice group cohesion.
