The case is updated.

Chief of Defense Eirik Kristoffersen emphasizes that he takes many reservations when he estimates the loss figures after almost a year of war in Ukraine.

– The Russian loss figures are beginning to approach around 180,000 killed and wounded soldiers. The Ukrainian loss figures are probably over 100,000 killed and injured soldiers, says the defense chief to TV 2 on Sunday morning.

– There are around 30,000 civilians who have been killed in this terrible war which is happening not so far away as us, says the defense chief.

– Use what they have

Russia is now in a difficult situation, after they attacked Ukraine on 24 February 2022, says Kristoffersen.

– We see a Russia that uses the tools it has. They have tied up a great deal of their forces in the war in Ukraine. Large parts of the Russian land force are in Ukraine, and Russia has suffered heavy losses. They have lost a lot of tanks, armored material and people, says the defense chief.

But Russia at the same time has an ability to produce more, extract material from its warehouses and mobilize even more, he points out.

– Russia is actually capable of holding on for a very long time, says Eirik Kristoffersen.
