The considered best hitter in Venezuela dies

He baseball in Venezuela is filled with sadness at the physical disappearance of the legendary batsman, Victor Davalillowho died at 84 years of age.

Considered by many as the best hitter born in Venezuela, Davalillo leaves behind a career full of legendary records and milestones in his country’s league and in the MLB.

Víctor Davalillo was born in Cabimas, Zulia state, on July 31, 1939. At 18 years of age, he debuted in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League with the Leones del Caracas and, six years later, he made his debut in the MLB with the Cleveland Indians.

Davalillo won the Gold Glove in 1964 with Cleveland, then played with the California Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is the batter with the most hits in the history of Venezuelan baseball with a total of 1,505 hits that earned him four batting titles in the LVBP, all with the hairy ninth.
