Notch never thought this game would work so well. Minecraft was and still is a colossal success in the industry. Proof is, it is quite simply the best-selling game in history of the 10th art. For the anecdote, the creator of the game, Markus Persson nicknamed Notch, had his Paypal account frozen in September 2010. The reason being that the Swede had too much money on it for a small developer of independent games, according to the service of online wallet. With 600,000 euros placed in his account, he had to justify himself by the unexpected success of Minecraft. The game was in Beta at the time and cost around 15 euros. A few months later, this great cube story had already sold a million copies.
Today, Minecraft hasn’t been managed by Notch for quite a while. However, the success is still there. If we count all the platforms on which it was sold, no less than 238 million copies of Minecraft were sold. And again, its figures provided by Mojang, name of the studio around the game, date from April 2021. It is therefore not implausible to think that Minecraft has exceeded a quarter of a billion copies sold as his lines are written. This number is well above its successor, the always popular Grand Theft Auto V which distributed 170 million copies. This enthusiasm marked from the beginning and its creator did not experience it for the better…

In June 2014 and while he was desperately trying to focus on other projects, he lost his footing. On his Twitter account, he says:Someone wants to buy my shares of Mojang, story that I advance a little in my life? Getting hated for trying to do the right things isn’t my thing…“At that time, Minecraft had already sold over 50 million copies. This cry for help is heard at Microsoft and a takeover agreement is reached. The Swede leaves with 2.5 billion dollars. They leave with Mojang. However, this huge sum is not going to help the developer out. On the contrary, it plunges the thirty-something into depression. Over the years, the words, sometimes sexist, discriminatory or conspiratorial, of Notch will be less and less assumed and his name will even be removed from the game.
