Shock and fear were mixed yesterday in Altos de San Lorenzo over the shooting death of a retired police officer, apparently during an attempted robbery that occurred late Tuesday. The fatal victim was identified as Héctor Lopumo, 71 years old, a former agent of the Buenos Aires Police and also known for his work as a soccer referee.
This is the first crime committed so far in 2023. As indicated, so far everything points to the execution of Lopumo as part of an assault, a situation that was repeated five times last year.
In this regard, it should be noted that, according to a record prepared by this newspaper with police and judicial information, the number of people murdered last year closed at 41.
As well as the number of crimes that were committed on the occasion of robbery, this record also reveals other statistical data that allow us to know this wave of violence in greater depth.
For example, both July and December were the months with the greatest violence, with 7 crimes each, while no deaths were recorded in the context of a violent act in September.
In addition, with regard to gender, of the total crimes, 24 were men, 15 were women, while two were trans people.
Regarding the age factor, Pía Larrea was the youngest victim.
