The Withings connected scale had not yet shown its full potential. With the new “eyes closed” mode, this is now the case. By allowing the device to record daily measurements and send them back to a smartphone, you no longer have to look at the screen of the scale to know your weight. It might seem counterproductive, but for all those affected by eating disorders, those wishing to keep their weight confidential, or to focus on another benchmark such as muscle mass, the “eyes closed” mode makes perfect sense.

It arrives at Withings and its entry-level Body Smart scale, available for less than 100 euros since Tuesday April 18. From the mobile application, simply select the new “eyes closed” mode to deactivate the weight display on the scale. It can be replaced in several ways. With encouraging messages or information such as the weather, air quality or the number of steps you have taken (with another Withings accessory). The weight information will be saved on the APP, which will not force you to have to see your weight on the screen every day.

Track your health, more than your weight

Of course, this functionality is nothing revolutionary and only asks to deactivate information on a screen. But all the same, Withings had to think about aligning itself quickly while the competition is increasingly offering equivalent functionalities. Withings does not have much competition in France on the market of connected scales despite the interest of the accessory to monitor your health, at the same level as that of a connected watch to warn us of heart or respiratory problems.

Thanks to its sensors, the Body Smart scale can track fat and muscle mass, track heart rate and the percentage of water in our body. The model follows the Body +, previously marketed by Withings.

Without displaying the weight on the scale, the “eyes closed” mode does not detract from the objective of its users, if they have configured one. With guidance rather than a clear display of weight, many will stay motivated in this more gentle and comforting way than the conventional way. As with watches, Withings users can also use their scale to compare their physical condition with what they should be based on their age and weight: metabolic rate is a great metric for getting back in shape without stress. and without having to deal with numbers that are never good to keep in mind too much.

Otherwise, we advise you to look into the new urine analysis product from Withings, presented at the last CES in Las Vegas and particularly popular in the aisles of the show last January.
