So far, the HBO adaptation has made plenty of references to The Last of Us Part I from which it is taken — and from which it follows very closely. Episode 6, broadcast on Prime Video in France since February 20, 2022, refers to The Last of Us Part IIthe sequel to the first game, repeatedly.

If you’ve ever played Naughty Dog’s game, did you spot these scenes? We list them here, but beware: SPOILERS on episode 6 and on The Last of Us Part II.

Final warning: you are entering a spoiler zone, come back after watching episode 6.

shimmer

When Joel and Ellie arrive in Jackson, Tommy and Maria show our duo around town, to a stable. There, Ellie is introduced to a colt named Shimmer. If you played the Part II, you already know it: it’s Ellie’s horse! This will accompany him for a whole period of his life, then. The continuity is already there.

The ballroom

Similarly, the ballroom is a key place in the Part II : this is where the famous kiss between Dina and Ellie takes place, like the confrontation between Joel and Ellie. We can already see it reproduced, in its entirety, with the same type of decorations, whereas it was not represented in the first game.

It’s Dinah

By the way, let’s stick to the ballroom side, and that’s a major appearance there. When Ellie and Joel eat together, with Tommy and Maria, we see another child for a few seconds, observing Ellie before fleeing.

It is clearly Dina, Ellie’s great love in the second game. It is all the more probable that Dina, at the beginning of the Part II, reveals to Ellie that she watched him discreetly at first, when he arrived in Jackson, even wondering why she ate so much. Everything in the sequence, even its timing during the meal, like the actress’s look, seems to point towards Dina.

The farm

At the fireside, Ellie asks Joel what he would like to do, if their trip ended and everything went well. ” You can do what you want: where are you going, what are you doing? “, she asks. ” A farm watch, a field… a ranch “replies Joel, before adding that he could raise sheep there in peace. This is neither more nor less than the exact description of the farm held by Ellie and Dina in The Last of Us Part II (an old ranch, a field, sheep, calm).

Learning to sniper with Tommy

As Tommy shows Ellie and Joel around Jackson, he talks about his ability to take down the Infected from half a mile away. ” You can teach me ? asks Ellie, of course. ” No he can’t », cuts Joel. In The Last of Us Part IIan entire game sequence is dedicated to Tommy teaching Ellie how to snipe infected.

The blind interrogation

Shortly before arriving in Jackson, Joel and Ellie meet a couple. They ask them where Jackson is. Joel interrogates first the wife, then the husband, without them knowing what location the other indicated. In the Part II, Ellie discusses this technique with Dina, when they are looking for Tommy. Except that, although we see Joel using this method in the first game, he never does it in front of Ellie. Again, this establishes continuity.
