Known as the Golden Power or the All Power, the Triforce is a sacred relic created by the three divinities who created Hyrule: Din, the Goddess of Power who created the Triforce of Power; Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, who created the Triforce of Wisdom; and Farore, the Goddess of Courage who created the Triforce of Courage, thus making up the Triforce as a whole.
After the ascension of the goddesses, the Triforce was deposited in a world parallel to Hyrule, the Sacred Realm. However, the goddesses themselves cannot use it, leaving the privilege only to mortals, a fact that several times came to cause wars between peoples to obtain the Golden Power.
The primary function of the Triforce is that can grant any wish to a common mortal and has had many appearances in different contexts within The Legend of Zelda video games. Nevertheless, the origin of this symbol transcends beyond the consoles.
Origin of the Triforce
According to a report published on the website of 3D Gamesthe symbol of the Triforce has been associated with mathematical and cultural origins.
The most recent origin of the insignia is in mathematics and is the work of a Polish academic named Waclaw Sierpinski, who in 1916 introduced this symbol, like the graphical representation of a fractala mathematical model that serves to explain an object made up of other equal ones, but smaller and that can be built by means of an algorithm.
Culturally speaking, the Triforce symbol has several historical contexts. It can be found in mosaics such as the one in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome.
Another example is in Japan. This symbol It was the insignia of a powerful samurai family that ruled the island during the 13th and 14th centuries.the Hojo clan.
The members called the symbol Mitsuuroko, which means “The Three Scales”, a name related to a legend that has to do with a mythical dragon to which one of the forefathers of this family prayed.
Curiously, the insignia was the inspiration for the logo of a company called precisely Mitsuuroko, in the field of renewable energy in 1926.
The origin according to Nintendo
Shigeru Miyamoto, several years ago, explained how they came up with this symbol for the Triforce in The Legend of Zelda. It has nothing to do with either mathematical or cultural origin.
“When we started designing The Legend of Zelda, we imagine that the fragments of the Triforce would, in fact, be microprocessors! It was going to be a game that would take place both in the past and in the future. And, as the hero was going to be the link (Ling in English) between one and the other, we baptized him Link, the “link” in English. But in the end, Link didn’t go to the future and stayed as a fantasy hero game. In fact, there is nothing futuristic about it.”.
