“QWe wanted to create a show that questioned, with humor and some cruelty, the system in which teenagers are inserted”, said Sérgio Agostinho, founder and artistic co-director of Peripécia Teatro, quoted in a statement.

The company explained that “The locker age” is a project that “seeks to explore, without preconceived ideas, the point of view of teenagers about the world around them”.

Sérgio Agostinho added that this creation was intended to “directly involve teenagers in an enriching creative process for all stakeholders and, obviously, for all spectators, whether adults or teenagers”.

For this purpose, during the creation process, the company had the collaboration of Escola Secundária Camilo Castelo Branco, in Vila Real, where it carried out research work.

Through contact with the students and the promotion of various activities, Peripécia sought to “understand what marks, today, the day-to-day life of teenagers, specifically the themes that are a source of anguish for the younger ones” and “what way these issues are approached in a school context”.

The objective was to “open the lockers” that keep “the anxieties, joys, uncertainties and lessons of adolescence and share them with the public, without the disdain with which the theme is usually portrayed, and taking into account the importance of this stage for the future of the individual and also of society”.

The project addresses topics such as mental health, gender issues, sexual orientation, ‘bullying’, climate anxiety or dating violence.

According to the company, the show “will be a kind of photograph of teenagers and also of the adults around them, which reflects the strangeness with which younger people face the universe of adults”.

The play stars Filipe Moreira, Noelia Domínguez, Élio Ferreira and Tiago Santos and is directed by José Carlos Garcia and Sérgio Agostinho.

With a premiere scheduled for May 25th, at Teatro de Vila Real, “Agência do cacifo” will then be on stage on June 2nd, in Sabrosa, and has sessions aimed at schools in the region.

Between June 30th and July 2nd, the show takes the stage of “Lua Cheia, Arte na Aldeia”, an event that, on every full moon, takes the theater to the village of Benagouro, in the municipality of Vila Real.
