An undersea fiber optic cable linking North Africa and Europe will soon be put in place to improve internet connectivity. The future operator, Medusa, has signed a construction agreement in Tunisia for the installation of this infrastructure which will also extend to Algeria, Morocco and Egypt. With a length of 8,760 km, this cable will be the longest to connect the two shores of the Mediterranean.

After signing an agreement with Orange Tunisia, Medusa Submarine Cable System, operator of submarine infrastructures, announced the construction of a submarine fiber optic cable between North Africa and Europe. This new cable should improve very high speed connectivity and strengthen the security of Internet connectivity. According to the document published on May 11, the cable will have up to 24 pairs of fibers with a capacity of 20 terabits each.

The laying of this submarine fiber optic cable is planned by the end of 2025. It will be the longest cable to connect the two shores of the Mediterranean. Besides Tunisia and Egypt, Morocco and Algeria will also have cable landing points. Several European countries including Spain, Portugal, France, Greece and Cyprus will also benefit.
