Giles Bourdouleix, 62, had already been taken into custody a year ago, in January 2022.
The mayor of Cholet, in Maine-et-Loire, was once again placed in police custody on Tuesday, we learned from a judicial source, confirming information from the regional press.
“I confirm custody,” said the prosecutor of Angers, Eric Bouillard. The magistrate refused to give further information on Tuesday evening, in particular to specify the file which motivated this police custody.
Illegal taking of interest
According to the regional press, the police showed up early Tuesday morning at the home of the city councilor and he would be heard at the Angers police station.
Three preliminary investigations, entrusted to the judicial police of Angers, were opened in 2021 concerning the town hall of Cholet for misappropriation, illegal taking of interest, breaches of the regulations on weapons as well as forgery and use of forgery.
The director general of services and the deputy director general were then also placed in police custody at the same time as the mayor. Gilles Bourdouleix has been mayor of Cholet (53,000 inhabitants) since 1995.
