– An increasingly pressured schedule increases the risk of work accidents, says Johan Hjertström, project manager for the Varberg Tunnel, Swedish Transport Administration, to TT.

The final blasting in the train tunnel is planned for later in May, but it will probably also be moved forward a few weeks depending on how the current sealing work goes.

– Today we don’t have far at all left of the train tunnel, just over 100 metres. We know that there are troublesome zones of porous rock and seepage in what remains. We continue to work on sealing the rock tunnel, which gives a successful result and we see that the leakage is decreasing, Johan Hjertström continues.

Process in the Land and Environment Court

The cracking in the rock and the leakage have caused the Swedish Transport Administration to apply for an extended permit to divert more groundwater to the Land and Environmental Court in mid-March. The sentence is being processed, but could take up to a year.

The Swedish Transport Administration is building a double track between Gothenburg and Malmö (today single track) and a tunnel under the center of Varberg.
