Yesterday, the blue verification ticks on Twitter started disappearing from the accounts that had them since before Elon Musk bought and took over Twitter. The plan was initially for them to be removed on April 1, but it took a few weeks longer than that.

The tokens were originally assigned to various public figures, such as journalists, actors and politicians, and served as proof that it was actually that person linked to the account. With the launch of the Twitter Blue subscription under the new administration, accounts that paid for the service also got the blue ticks next to their name.

At first it was possible to see if the buck by the name was one of the old ones, or if it had been paid, but there was a bit of confusion about them at times.

The blue ticks that you can now see next to the account on Twitter should be purchased through a Twitter Blue subscription, unless there is another icon next to the name. Accounts linked to companies that in turn have accounts with a yellow tick next to their name seem to get a different kind of blue tick, and a small icon of the company’s logo next to their username.
