Some Apple-made items sell for a small fortune, but there are some that are simply priceless. And this one is not unique because of its exorbitant price, but because of its rarity as such. Here is perhaps the rarest Apple object in the world.
What is this rare Apple object?
You are surely familiar with the iPhone, the iPad, the Apple Watch and quite a few other Apple products that punctuate the daily life of millions of people. You may know quite a few other things that Apple has made like old Macs, products that haven’t won over their audience and have kind of gone into oblivion.
But I’m willing to bet you don’t know this object that Apple has been manufacturing since 2020-2021. And that’s normal, because you can’t buy it in stores. It is DongleBookPro, from the YouTube channel of the same name, which presents it to us as “the rarest Apple object in the world”. This remains to be debated but first, what is this object?
The object is packaged very carefully, as you would expect from a product made by Apple. The little tabs are reminiscent of the packaging of an Apple Watch, and when you pull them out, you’re left with a little message from Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO:
10 years. Congratulations on reaching this milestone. The work you’ve done, the challenges you’ve met, the progress you’ve made. They’re in addition to your lasting contribution to Apple’s mission to change the world for the better. From everyone at Apple, thank you for everything you bring to this journey together.
Moving isn’t it? Don’t panic, you can dry your tears with the microfiber cloth placed just below. That on the other hand you should know, this famous cloth that Apple started selling last year for the modest sum of 25 euros. But the real surprise lies below.
It is therefore a trophy offered to employees who have reached 10 years of experience at Apple. And they are thanked by… just a block of aluminum. Finally, not only. According to Apple:
Your 10-year trophy is made from the same 6000 series aluminum used to make Apple products. Leftovers from production are reused to form a 100% recycled alloy. The alloy is cast into ingots, then each ingot is cut into blocks which are then machined to reach the final size. The surface is blown and the angles are tapered. The block is anodized to protect it. Finally, a stainless steel Apple logo is affixed.
A new Apple trophy, very different from the old ones
The purpose of the object makes it something rare, but that’s not all. In addition to being an object reserved for employees who have stayed at least ten years in the company, this award has recently changed its look. Until 2020-2021, that same trophy came in the form of a glass block with the Apple logo embedded inside.
Similar to subscriber tier trophies on YouTube, there are other rewards for other year tiers. They have changed over the years, and here is an example of what an employee received in 2020 for those 5 years at Apple.
