El Paso, United States.- The United States deployed approximately 24,000 law enforcement officers along the 3,140-kilometer border with Mexico in an effort to prevent migrant crossings due to the lifting of Title 42, a rule that allows expulsion to asylum seekers expressly.

An additional 1,500 active duty military soldiers are also being sent to support US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), but they will not interact with the migrants. Some 550 soldiers arrived yesterday at the border between the United States and Mexico.

Likewise, there are 2,500 elements of the National Guard there, in charge of helping CBP.

President Joe Biden said Tuesday that his Administration was working to make the change orderly, but assured that the southern border “is going to be chaotic for a while.”

For his part, the Republican Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, ordered the dispatch of hundreds of Texan soldiers to the border “to help intercept and repel” the migrants.

To meet the challenge ahead, Washington has 1,100 new border patrol coordinators.

The country will also have hundreds of police from other Department of Homeland Security agencies, 400 volunteers and a thousand people in charge of the so-called “credible fear” interviews, which assess whether there is a possibility that the person will be persecuted or tortured if they return to his country.

The legal repertoire to enter the United States, expanded before the end of Title 42, is difficult to understand for the undocumented, often without return options after having sold all their belongings to pay “coyotes” who promise to help them cross the border .

One thing does seem clear to the majority: the warning that with Title 8 there will not only be expulsions to Mexico but also a significant increase in deportations, a ban on entry for offenders for five years, and criminal proceedings for repeat offenders.

In fact, the White House warned this Wednesday that those who enter illegally will not be “eligible” to obtain asylum and will end up deported, unless they demonstrate “a reasonable fear of persecution” in their countries.
