The US will donate a station for the Costa Rican coast guard in the Caribbean

San José.- The Government of the United States will donate a station for the coast guards and a pier in the Caribbean of Costa Rica, the authorities of both countries informed this Friday.

The Embassy of the United States, the Ministry of Public Security and the Board of Port Administration and Economic Development of the Atlantic Slope (Japdeva) signed a letter for the construction of a Coast Guard station and pier in Moín, province of Limón (Caribbean). , bordering with Nicaragua and Panama.

The investment in these works will be 4.5 million dollars and from the signing of the letter this Friday the process of architectural designs and plans will begin. The work is expected to be ready in 2026.

“These projects are the result of the close collaboration we have with Costa Rica. The United States will donate the construction of the infrastructure and the Ministry of Public Security will buy the 85-foot boat with which the fight against organized crime in Limón will be reinforced,” said the United States ambassador in San José, Cynthia Telles. .

For his part, the Minister of Public Security of Costa Rica, Mario Zamora, indicated that “the naval support received by the Costa Rican police materializes the alliance that exists between the United States and Costa Rica, in favor of justice, law and defense of our democracies.

In recent years, the United States has increased its cooperation with Costa Rica in the fight against international drug trafficking, since this country is located in a strategic area of ​​the world for the passage of drugs from South America to North America and Europe.
