After a somewhat troubled recent past, with the announced departure of star Henry Cavill from the lead role of Geralt of Rivia, it seems that Netflix is interested in continuing The Witcher series for a few more years.

In a recent interview with the Deadline website, the series’ casting director, Sophie Holland, casually let it slip that in addition to the fourth season, the streaming service series already has the fifth season confirmed to happen.

Commenting on season four, Holland stated that “we’re about to start shooting…so there’s going to be a little break, and then we’re going straight into season five.” Unfortunately, the director didn’t add any other details about the series.

Normally, this is the kind of announcement that Netflix itself would – or should – make at an opportune time in the future; perhaps after the release of the first or second part of the third season of the series. However, perhaps the company is studying the ground before going that far with the show – despite its massive success.

With the departure of Cavill from the main role at the end of the third season for the entry of Liam Hemsworth, it may be that despite depositing good wishes in the replacement, the company is still a little afraid.

“He has a huge fan base,” added Sophie Holland when asked about Hemsworth.

The third season of The Witcher already has a date to premiere on Netflix, with the first part scheduled for next June 29th, and the second for July 27th. This will be Henry Cavil’s last season in the role of Geralt, with season four, with Liam Hemsworth, likely to take place in 2024.
