They ask for changes after blackout that caused a fire and left 3,000 subscribers without electricity in Waltham

Waltham, Massachusetts is a city renowned not only for its diversity, but also for its history of power outages that increasingly leave more severe consequences for businesses and residents.

The most recent blackout left more than 3,000 subscribers without power, a house on fire and hundreds of appliances useless.

“It tends to happen very often when the power goes out, you have blackouts and everything, but something this big has never happened,” said Hortencia Morales, a worker at Reflexions Unisex Salon.

To attend to those affected by the blackouts, the Eversource company is calling two meetings, the first will be held tomorrow Thursday at 4 pm at the Waltham government center.

However, representatives and residents ask for long-term solutions.

The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. on School Avenue. Another fire was reported on Bright Street.

Jonathan Paz, Waltham Councilor says “Eversouce has lost the trust of the Waltham community. A lot of people want answers to their questions, which I think are very basic, why is this happening? Why don’t they have good responses to their damage bounty How are we going to prevent this in the future?

Councilor Paz says that the blackouts are impacting the community more and more. In October a power loss affected more than 30% of the population, including South Waltham and Moody Street businesses.

He calls for the intervention of the Department of Public Services.

“Let them get involved because we want to know what it is, what is the surge, what was the panorama of damage they did in this society? And the truth is, I would like to know how many Waltham resources we had to use to be able to pay, put out these fires .”, he added.
