Beautiful villa.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked businessman José Antonio Fernández, president of FEMSA, to explain the increase in the prices of products in OXXO stores.

“By the way, I don’t know if it is, I hope I explain it deliberately, the owner of OXXO, Mr. Fernández, raised all the prices, I don’t know if he has any justification, because it is where the prices rose the most, soft drinks, pig water and junk products, the best thing of course is not to eat that,” he said.

In a conference from Villahermosa, the federal president complained that in the entire chain of convenience stores “prices went up a lot.”

“Hopefully and they explain why, why Coca-Cola and Gansito and potatoes rose so much, that not only should you not consume a lot of these products because they are harmful, but because they are very expensive and you have to save.”

“We have to change eating habits and not let ourselves go because of advertising because many of these junk products are consumed by advertising, so they have inflated politicians with advertising, junk products and then they harm us, they affect us,” he declared.

On January 28, López Obrador and executives of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) challenged Fernández to come in the morning to participate in a technical confrontation on the electricity paid by OXXO stores.

And it is that to promote his electrical reform, the President systematically resorted to accusations against OXXO -a subsidiary of FEMSA-, Bimbo and Walmart, which he accused of paying less for the electricity they receive, compared to small stores grocery stores and Mexican homes.

In November 2021, the man from Tabasco said that the owners of Iberdrola, OXXO and Bimbo should be sorry and help move the electricity industry forward, instead of seeking to maintain “chaos”. And in October of that same year, the Chief Executive targeted FEMSA by assuring that the owners of OXXO were the ones in charge in Mexico.
