Driver Nathan Moody, who was driving the fuel truck that caused a northern stretch of I-95 to collapse, was accidentally killed, according to the Philadelphia coroner.

The 53-year-old affected sustained head trauma, chemical inhalation, and thermal injuries, according to the medical report.

Moody was traveling on the Cottman Avenue Bridge in northeast Philadelphia that connects to busy I-95 when he lost control of the vehicle as he turned onto the exit, according to investigators. The individual was driving a cargo truck that carried up to 8,500 gallons of fuel.

Investigators added that the truck struck part of the side of the bridge and later exploded. No other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the crash, authorities said.

Moody’s remains were found Monday in the middle of a demolition process on the northern stretch of I-95 followed by the southern one that was compromised by the collapse.

The victim’s cousin, Alex Moody described his relative as “a hard-working family man who lived in the Philadelphia area and had been driving trucks for a decade. My cousin was a hard-working man, a family man, a good husband and father. He was always calm and close to the family. He got along with everyone.”

Another of the cousins, Isaac Moody added that they had gone out together the Friday before the accident and were planning to meet for Father’s Day.

Authorities plan to finish demolition work on both the north and south sections of I95 by Thursday and begin a 24/7 plan to rebuild the busy thoroughfare.
