Mexico City.- In the shipping area of the Querétaro Intercontinental Airport, elements of the National Guard detected four human skulls that were destined for the United States of America.
The discovery was registered in a courier and parcel company inside the airport center, while national guards carried out random searches in search of narcotics, firearms and currency with prior authorization.
They chose various shipments and subjected them to an inspection, supported by an X-ray machine. Thus, in a package, they detected abnormal organic material, for which they proceeded to carry out the review manually.
Opening a cardboard box, they discovered four skulls of different sizes, wrapped in transparent plastic and aluminum foil.
The human remains came from the municipality of Apatzingán, Michoacán, and were destined for an address in the city of Manning, in the state of South Carolina, in the United States.
The GN specified that they did not have the documentation that would support their legal origin and transportation, so the shipment was irregular.
In accordance with article 4 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States that regulates the General Health Law applicable throughout the country, the admission and departure of corpses from the national territory may only be carried out with the authorization of the Ministry of Health or by order of the judicial authority or the Public Ministry.
“In the case of the transfer of corpses between federal entities, it will be required to notify the competent health authority of the place where the death certificate has been issued,” it is stipulated.
Likewise, for the use of corpses or part of them for teaching and research purposes, the consent of the disposing party is required.
“In the case of corpses of unknown persons, educational institutions may obtain them from the Public Ministry or from establishments that provide medical care or social assistance services. For such purposes, educational institutions must notify the Ministry of Health, under the terms of this law and other applicable provisions”, it refers.
The area of the discovery was protected to notify the Federal Public Ministry and start the investigation folder, so the Attorney General of the Republic will be in charge of continuing the corresponding investigations.
