They investigate the death of a young Hispanic woman at the hands of her partner in Fresno

FRESNO COUNTY, California – A 22-year-old man is behind bars and will be charged with murder after he allegedly took the life of a woman he was allegedly dating.

On Saturday, July 1, 2023, at around 1:22 pm, police officers responded to the 4900 block of East Balch Avenue to investigate a report of a person with a gunshot wound.

At the scene, officers found 27-year-old Anissia Martinez with a single gunshot wound.

According to authorities, Martínez was shot by her boyfriend, Rosalino Mendoza-Hernández, who was arrested as he tried to flee the scene.

Martínez was rushed to the Regional Community Medical Center, where she was initially listed in critical but stable condition.

Detectives have learned that Martinez and Mendoza-Hernandez have been in a relationship since early 2023.

During the investigation, detectives recovered a handgun that they believe was the one used in the crime.

Mendoza-Hernandez, a gang member and parolee, was arrested at the time on attempted murder and other charges related to possession of firearms.

On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 5:04 p.m., Martínez was pronounced dead by medical personnel, so the charges against Mendoza-Hernández will be upgraded to murder.

Although an arrest has been made, detectives ask anyone with information to contact the Fresno Police Department or Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867).

The events occurred while a family was enjoying the 4th of July on the balcony.
