They kill a married couple at point blank range steps from their home in West Philadelphia

A married couple was fatally shot just steps from their home early Friday morning in West Philadelphia, according to authorities.

The killing was reported to have occurred in the 6100 block of Locust Street at 2:45 a.m.

So far the motive for the crime is uncertain, because the lady’s wallet was left lying on the sidewalk and a pistol in its carrier that was never used.

“Preliminarily we know that this couple was literally steps from the stairs of their residence and inside it were their children,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “The detectives identified private homes with surveillance cameras and are taking charge of processing the evidence to see if we find the person or persons responsible.”

Small explained that 18 bullet casings were found, 15 of which were very close to the victims, so it is understood that the gunman or gunmen made the detonations at a short distance, at point blank range.

The victims were a 43-year-old woman who sustained a shot to the back of the head and a 47-year-old man who was shot in the face. They were found by officers who responded to the emergency after multiple calls to 911 and paramedics certified death at the scene.

The gun recovered at the scene was in his protective bag, so according to Small it was not used in the shooting. It is unknown at the moment who it belonged to. “We do not rule out that it was a robbery, but the woman’s wallet was next to her. It is uncertain if they took the contents of it, but we also found two cell phones, ”she said.

So far no arrests have been made and the investigation is still active.
