Mexico City.- The parliamentary groups of the Chamber of Deputies insist on limiting the interpretative powers of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF), despite the internal opposition of its militants and legislators, as well as public opinion that has demanded not to touch to the organ.

In search of a wording that the benches accept, a new working group was created to review the wording of the three articles of reform to the Constitution with which it is intended to prevent the Court from intervening in the internal life of the parties, as is the definition of candidacies and leaders, in addition to preventing them from resolving demands on decisions of Congress.

The Morena and PAN groups held plenary meetings to address the issue, but are still awaiting the final wording of the working group.

Legislators from Morena presented drafting alternatives to save the issue of affirmative actions, so that they do not infringe the rights of candidates belonging to vulnerable groups.

The coordinator of the deputies of Morena, Ignacio Mier, upon leaving the plenary meeting of his bench, reported that in the course of the next few hours there will be a new draft and the session of the Constitutional Points Commission will resume, without specifying an hour .

He assured that there are myths and lies about the proposal to reform the powers of the Electoral Tribunal, which was signed by Morena, PAN, PRI, PVEM, PT and PRD.

Mier indicated that, if the reform is achieved, they will issue a position to deny the claims that the Court is weakened.

“No attribution is taken away, it is false, the only thing that is established are the attributions of article 73 of the Chamber of Deputies that they not be invaded, exclusive attributions of the Chamber of Deputies,” said Mier about a part of the reform , which seeks to prevent the Court from overthrowing decisions made by legislators in plenary.

He did not say whether the intention to prevent the Court from intervening in the definition of candidacies and leadership of the parties continues, and that the last word on affirmative actions remains with the parties.

-Whether the reform is going or not?, he was asked.

“We are working on it,” he replied before going to another meeting.

The leader of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, confirmed that the attempt to reach a consensus wording to reform the powers of the Electoral Tribunal continues.

“Who can be against clearly guaranteeing in the Constitution, in the law what are the affirmative actions, that total parity is guaranteed as it is, the participation of women, that there is compliance with powers on the margin What interpretation of the law does the Electoral Tribunal or the Court itself, the Legislative Power, have?” he questioned.

The MC coordinator, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, asked the parties of the Va por México alliance (PAN-PRI-PRD) to stop trying to approve the constitutional reform.

“I still see all possible attempts, hidden, not public, to save it, with little expertise and bad legislative technique. The amendments are worse than the original text.

“I hope that there is prudence, that there is good sense and that sufficient space is given. After the presidential election we must reflect on what things can be improved in the electoral system, a reform would be positive after the 2024 electoral process,” he said.

He called on the PAN, PRI and PRD parties to listen to the citizen voices that ask to honor the commitment of the constitutional moratorium so as not to affect the autonomous bodies.

“We pray that there be prudence,” he remarked.

Alito claims that “marea rosa” is uninformed

The president of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, rejected that the reform threatens the Electoral Tribunal and attributed the discontent of the so-called “pink tide” that asks the opposition to vote against, to misinformation.

Moreno affirmed that his party is not betraying the citizens who took to the streets with them to defend the INE and the Court.

He ruled out that voting in favor of modifying the powers of the electoral authority has a political cost for the PRI.

“But what is the cost? I think there is misinformation,” he said about the criticism of Va por México about supporting the reform.

“Alito” Moreno said that although they respect the opinions of civil society, the reform of the Electoral Tribunal is progressive, strong and solid.

He indicated that it seeks to clearly reflect in the Constitution the powers and competences of the electoral authority, the self-determination of political parties, the obligation for the courts to make decisions based on what is guaranteed by law and the possibility of legislature to have the capacity to organize internally.

He also rejected that the reform affects the militancy and denied that there is disagreement within his bench, despite the fact that yesterday, the Morenista Irma Juan Carlos, one of the legislators who rebelled against the reform, assured that among those who stopped In the discussion in the Constitutional Points Commission, there were PRI members and the deputy of the tricolor, Carlos Iriarte, asked for an open parliament before voting on it.

“I don’t see any disagreement,” he said.

Regarding the indications that the reform benefits leaders like him and Mario Delgado who intend to extend their tenure, he regretted that Movimiento Ciudadano is against the initiative when its leader, Dante Delgado, has remained in power.

“I want to be very careful, but you see what they say and they can’t stand it. You should see some leaders, for example, the MC, how many years has it been? The MC is a political party that has been designed to be against the coalition, I am truly sorry for the actions that it has, because they also agree, but they say that they cannot vote in favor,” he said.

Moreno Cárdenas assured that MC supports the reform, but below the table.
