Mexico City.- While President Andrés Manuel López Obrador is on tour in Quintana Roo to supervise the Mayan Train, an environmental organization projected messages against the work at the National Palace.

The civil organization Voto X el Clima, dedicated to promoting care for the environment, a sustainable economy and public policies to improve the quality of life, protested tonight at the National Palace, within the framework of World Earth Day.

“Stop the ethnocidal train”, “This train is not Mayan” and “Stop the machines”, were the messages projected on the building where López Obrador lives.

“We denounce the ecocide of the Selva Maya by the government headed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for the construction of the Mayan Train,” said the co-founder of Voto X El Clima, Gemma Santana.

The organization is part of the #SélvamedelTren movement that has denounced the imposition of the work that began to be built without environmental authorizations and whose initial cost of 140 billion pesos has risen to more than 300 thousand, according to what López Obrador accepted last July .

AND AMLO on tour

The President made a new tour this Saturday of the work of the Mayan Train in Cancun, Quintana Roo.

Accompanied by Governor Mara Lezama, the President flew over the work and highlighted the archaeological zone of El Meco, which was enclosed in the urbanization of the tourist site.

On social networks, López Obrador stressed that the construction of 1,554 kilometers of the Mayan Train means social and tourist development.

“Above all, show the world the pride of being the heirs of great cultures and ancient civilizations,” he posted.

“Look at this treasure known as El Meco, in the heart of Cancun, in front of Isla Mujeres.”

Governor Lezama explained that they reviewed the progress of priority development and mobility projects in the entity, such as the Mayan Train.

He assured that it is the most important railway work being built in the world.

He reported that they flew over the new Boulevard Colosio, the Nichupté Bridge and the junction to the international airport.

They also saw the extension of Chac Mool Avenue and the archaeological remains of El Meco.
