CDMX.- The INEGI reported that from January to June 2022, 15,561 homicides were registered in the country, a rate of 12 per 100,000 inhabitants.

According to INEGI figures, the number of murders decreased 10.8 percent compared to the same period in 2021, which totaled 17,462, with a rate of 14.

This figure is different from the one reported by the executive secretariat of the National Public Security System, since they use different methodologies.

INEGI collects information from Civil Registries (death certificates and certificates), Public Ministries (statistical notebooks of death) and Forensic Medical Services (Semefos).

Meanwhile, the SESNSP reports the statistics systematized by the State Prosecutor’s Offices based on the investigation files initiated for this crime.

The main means used to provoke homicide, during the first semester of

2022, it was the aggression with the firing of firearms, with 68.1 percent.

The report “Deaths by homicide from January to June 2022”, published this Monday, indicates that in that period there were 123 cases of assault with a shot from a short weapon.

Another 18 for assault with a rifle, shotgun and long weapon, and 10,453 for assault with the firing of “other” and unspecified firearms.

It is followed by “sharp object”, with 1,505 homicides; $1,950 for hanging, strangulation, or suffocation; and 118 for assault with smoke, fire and flames.

Serious cases are also reported, such as 39 cases of drowning and submersion; 36 murders by assault with bodily force; and 7 by pushing from a high place.

“In the case of men, in the first semester of 2022, the rate was 22 homicides per 100,000,” adds the INEGI report.

“Compared to the same period of 2021, a decrease of 3 units is observed with the definitive information, since in that year it was 25”.

It adds that, in the case of women, the rate did not change and remained at three homicides per 100,000 in the first half of 2022.
