For several years it has been said that Cruz Azul will have its own stadium and alleged models of the celestial building have even leaked, but at the mere hour everything collapses or is denied. However, now it does seem that the house of La Máquina is serious.
When Cruz Azul was ripped off saying that the Blue Stadium was going to be demolished and the team had to evacuate, began this novel of the new stadium, still under the administration of Billy Álvarez, who is currently a fugitive from justice. Years have passed and now it is Víctor Manuel Velázquez, who not only promises the new stadium, but also gave some clues about the construction.
That now Cruz Azul will have its own stadium
In an interview con ESPN, the manager indicated that the objective of his administration is to leave his own stadium and that it will not take place until 2023 for the first stone to be laid. So far, the message can be understood as a political campaign speech, but According to Velázquez, both the budget and the stadium project have already been approved.
“This year I would like to lay the first stone… It all depends on the negotiations, on the steps that are being taken with the land that we have identified as being the best for the fans and for the team.”, indicated the president of the cement club. “Hopefully in a couple of months, maximum three months we can already have the negotiated area and already be able to make an announcement that we lay the first stone and start building”.
It must be remembered that until now Cruz Azul’s only stadium is on December 10, in Ciudad Cooperativa Cruz Azul, and since his move to Mexico City he has rented both the Azteca stadium and the Azul stadium.
Where will the Cruz Azul Stadium be?
There is nothing concrete in that sense, since Velázquez indicated that there are two options to carry out the construction, in the south of Mexico City or in the north of the metropolitan area and the place will be large, since between 20 and 25 hectares are contemplated.
“We’re just deciding where it would be, if in the South of the City or in the North of the Metropolitan Area”, said.
For now, Cruz Azul will remain in the Azteca Stadium for a few months until its closure is announced to begin the remodeling work for the 2026 World Cup, therefore will have to move once more and it is said that he could return to the Azulgrana Stadium, Ciudad Universitaria or Toluca.
