24 cadets of the Higher Institute of Public Security of Sonora (Isspe) were tortured by their own instructors, by spraying tear gas directly into their eyes and ordering them to endure the pain.

A video that circulates on social networks, and that was recorded by the same trainers, shows the cadets crying and writhing in pain on the ground.

The video shows men and women who apparently want to drop out of practice, but the instructor orders them “No one is leaving me!” The cadets cry and scream and complain that they can’t breathe.

“Yes, they can breathe! Or are they missing an arm?” the instructor demands.

Although this is a technique used during the training of police officers, so that each one knows its scope, the director of Isspe, Ellioth Romero Grijalva, criticized the method and removed the instructor in charge of the practice for “not following the appropriate methodology in the exercise and unnecessarily expose the integrity of the cadets and record it.”

Irresponsible to risk cadets

“Although it is true that this activity has to be carried out as part of the initial training of each element, so that they know its scope, it is also true that said exercise must be carried out in a way that is not as direct as is appreciated. in the video.

“Hence, we classify this as irresponsibility on the part of the instructor in charge. It is clarified that in these practices a cadet or cadet has never been injured, we also consider that it is unnecessary to put them at risk, as can be seen, ”she said in a statement.

The director of the Isspe considered the practice as a lack of respect for the cadets and spoke in favor of always taking care of their physical integrity.

“Although we are an institution that has a very arduous discipline, they are not a justification to stop ignoring respect for the person,” he said.

Faced with this situation, which has earned strong criticism from users of social networks, the Isspe director ordered the suspension of this practice as long as the methodology is not applied correctly.

“Although it is important that future police officers know the scope of the application of said solvent, it is also important that this must be under criteria that prioritize the safety and learning of cadets,” he commented.
