The Buenos Aires Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Julio Alakparticipated this Friday in the opening of envelopes for the tender of the “Replacement of Pipes of the Drinking Water Supply Network in the city of La Plata”a work that aims solve the problem of obsolescence and deterioration of the primary and secondary drinking water distribution systems in the provincial capital.

The official assured that “we are very happy because it is a historical event for the Buenos Aires capital, due to the fact that by decision of Governor Axel Kicillof, the public tender for renovation of almost 80% of the drinking water network”procedure that will be executed in March.

Alak remembered that “The current network is 70 years old, it is made of iron and has permanent losses of water pressure”while “this tender is the first step to start having water in all homes in the city.”

The minister emphasized that “it is a gigantic work that will benefit acthus 500 thousand inhabitants of La Plata and adds to the tasks in the water treatment plantwhose third stage began recently to have more water pressure, and which will benefit the residents of Gonnet and Villa Castells”.

In this context, it stated that “This is not an isolated incident”, because similar tasks are being carried out in other districts, such as “Bahía Blanca, which we visited yesterday, and the work on the network has already begun there”. In this way, he informed that the old pipes of the primary and secondary water distribution networks will be renewed, in systems whose useful life is largely exhausted and on the verge of collapse.

The opening of the tender envelope, in which the minister participated, is part of a set of replacement works in the region, begun in recent years. For the design of the work, two basic guidelines had to be respected, linked to hydraulic operation and urbanization, so the original operation of the system had to be respected as much as possible and excavations minimized.
