On Tuesday, PennDOT secretary Mike Carroll explained that they have financial support to advance the work and assigned contractors who already had working on the busy road for the previous demolition and the rest of the plan.

Governor Josh Shapiro declared a state of emergency in Philadelphia to activate available federal funds for reconstruction.

Last Sunday June 11, 2023 at approximately 6:00 am an explosion was recorded in the lower part of I-95 northbound northeast of Philadelphia causing the collapse of the structure. Since then the highway has seen closures in both directions, south and north, and drivers in and out of Philadelphia have juggled reaching their destinations on time or late.
