La terna del presidente Gustavo Petro para la Fiscalía General de la Nación

President Gustavo Petro formally handed over to the Supreme Court of Justice the shortlist to elect the Attorney General of the Nation to replace the current prosecutor, Francisco Barbosa, who Term ends in January 2024.

The shortlisted for the executive are the lawyers: Ángela María Buitrago Ruiz, Amelia Pérez Parra and Amparo Cerón Ojeda.

Petro’s request on this list

The Head of State specified in his letter that “regarding investigations or criminal proceedings involving members of my family, I ask you to consider the possibility of appointing an ad-hoc prosecutor so that there are no doubts regarding their transparency.”

The president refers specifically to the current investigation against his son, Nicolás Petro Burgos, who is accused by the Prosecutor’s Office of the crimes of illicit enrichment and money laundering.

The shortlist was formally received by the vice president of the high court, Gerson Chaverra Castro, on behalf of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Fernando Castillo Cadena.
